The best city I’ve ever been to… Chi City

Posted by elenalegezina

Well, I guess everybody's got the best-loved city. For me it's Chicago or The Windy City.I went there in summer, 2009 when I was participating in Work&Travel Program. I went there just for 2 days with the guy I'd been working with at that time. His name was Vlad and he was from Moscow city. Well, too many impressions for 2 days...

First, we went on a travel tour by a double decker bus around Chicago Loop - that's how they call the downtown of the city.

It was awesome! Cause we managed to see so many sights. I was greatly impressed by the city's architecture - so many various buildings. I got to know that skyscrapers aren't that similar as they seem to be :)

Then we went to Navy Pier  - an entertainment place both for youngsters and adults.

We had a great time, cause we got acquainted with a 30-something couple from Arizona, the'd also been on holidays.

What I'll never forget is a restaurant, dedicated to a famous movie "Forest Gump", which is called "Bubba Gump".

As you can see from its name, the restaurant specializes in seafood and if you watched the film, then the name of the restaurant should tell you something about it. We ate different kinds of shrimps there - boiled, steamed, deep-fried, etc.

When it became dark we went to some night club to play pool there. Chi city is beautiful both day and night.

That was our first day so far. I forgot to mention, that we stayed at Chicago International Hostel for 2 days, which was quite good.

The next day we went to downtown again and walked there a lot. We went to Contemporary Art Museum, from which I understood that I don't understand contemporary art at all )))

What I liked was people relaxing on green grass, just chilling.

Then we went to Millenium Park park, which was not far from Michigan Lake (it seems to be the endless ocean) and were amazed by its beauty.

After that we went closer to the lake, took lots of pictures and...

I don't really remember what was next. I only remember how we went to one of the world's highest skyscrapers - The Sears Tower (Willis Tower) in the evening so as to see the whole city at night. It was unbelievable! So amazing, so beautiful, you can't even imagine!

We ended up sitting on the bank of Chicago River, eating sushi and watching the steamerships pass by.

Summer.

Posted by vladislav

Okay, you ask me how I spent my summer? Generally speaking, not so good as I expected. Because I planned my summer during all year, I mean, what I will do, what places I will visit. I had desire to go in Jessup Summer School, to my friends, to my folks in Kazakhstan. But, unfortunately, because of many reasons all my plans destroyed. It was a big pity and I was really very upset. At the same time I was finally make sure in quote of one smart man: "No need to make plans, you just need to strive to their implementation". That’s right.

But, in spite of all, I am not despaired. I relaxed and spent good time during all July: at home, with my friends, under open air and at village of my grandmother and grandfather. I like village, I spent many times of my childhood there and I have a lot of warm nostalgic memoirs. There's a silent atmosphere, there is no city noise, fresh air, nature and I have a hammock here. I adore just relax in hammock and look in sky, I can do it a long time.

In August I decide to add something useful to my free time. For instance, I watched many films (some of with English subtitles), which I wanted to watch a lot of time before, but had not enough time or just forget about. Some movies I liked, some films very impressed me.

Also, I have read a few books and I would be to continue it more. For example, I finished three books of Paul Ekman «Psychology of Lie», because I like psychology’s books like that and I think it’s a very useful book in our time. I respect Paul Ekman, because he did a titanic work in his research. Besides I have read amazing book «The Catcher in the Rye» by Jerome David Salinger. I so like it, that I ready to write my personal big review in English, because this book make me ponder about many things. One more books which I liked are «The Financier» and «Titan» by Theodore Dreiser. Also, I have read a short story «Killers» by Ernest Hemingway in English language. It’s a funny story with easy level of English. I want to continue to read English and Americans classics of literature and, perhaps to try read something in English, because I think actually my language level not so good to read something steeper. =)

In the ends of August I started a few books with special English course to improve my language in whole and in particular my oral speech. I finished only a few lessons but feel that it was good idea. So, it’s my very short story.

Thank you for your attention.

P.S. A little part photos from villiage.

It's ours house...

Oh... I'm sorry, my mistake...

Appels and Me.

Apple-tree

I don't expected that I spent my holydays like that, but it wasn't bad.  The one proverb says: "Relaxation is changing of activity" and it's tru.

Working on dacha was realy relacted after hardest exams.

Someone else spent his holyday's on health resort, but I spent on countryside.

In july I went to a children camp to see my friends. They were working in the camp.

I felt  a little bit  nostalgia because I  had worked in that camd a year ago. So... I know a lot about that place.

I spend there 2 days.  It was funny and this days were full of emotions.

My summer

This summer i was in Omsk. But i found some time to do to Moscow and Sochi.

I was there for about 2 weeks. The reason of my travelling was mom's work.

My mom is a business woman. She owns a little company in Sochi.

But we found some time to visit the Olympic objects and swam in Black Sea.
